American Flag Disposal & Free Flag Retirement

What do you do with an old, faded or tattered flag?

Mail it to Flag Keepers at 20600 Rookery Drive, Estero, FL 33928. We will retire it free of charge, in a dignified manner as outlined in the U.S. Flag Code. Donations are optional and greatly appreciated.

Flag Retirement

The United States Flag Code says a flag no longer fit for display should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. Flag Keepers retires worn flags with that respect, at no cost to you. To drop a flag off locally, try a VFW or American Legion post, a Scout troop, or a hardware store that collects flags. Call ahead, since programs vary by location.

American symbols merged: flag, Constitution, eagle, and Statue of Liberty.

Our mission

Flag Keepers exists to teach the public about the U.S. Flag Code and the proper care, display, and retirement of the American flag. When you see a tattered or faded flag in your community, you can report it anonymously for $7, and we will mail a respectful letter asking that it be replaced or retired.
